PAMPERED FOR LESS
HAIR/WAXING
Use Groupon to check for deals on haircuts/waxing/blowouts. It’s a great way to try new stylists until you come across one you absolutely love. I make sure to cross check Groupon user reviews with Yelp reviews to make sure that people have been having a positive experience with the service before I commit to buying a deal.
Aveda (multiple locations)
Aveda gives 50% off first-time client appointment visits (off any hair service) and occasionally will extend up to 30% off last minute appointments (hair/facials) during slower periods (usually on weekdays – Mondays and Tuesdays). They may have other specifications like level of stylist that the last-minute appointment discounts are valid toward, so always be sure to read the fine print. Make sure to get on their mailing list.
Aveda also has a deal on Tuesdays for eyebrows – get your brows waxed and shaped for $20 on Tuesdays.
Beauty Beach Lounge (Playa Vista)
This salon in Playa Vista is $25 for a First Time Men’s Cut & $50 for a First Time Women’s Cut. Regular prices are steep but I’ve only heard good things about this salon.
18/8 (Playa Vista)
This men’s hair salon in Playa Vista offers a first time client deal of “Two Haircuts for $49”.
Venice Trim (Venice)
First haircut is $30 (they don’t blow-dry and style, but you don’t necessarily need all that if you’re in-between cuts). They also have a Yelp deal - $5 off a regular service.
John Peri Salon (Marina del Rey)
20% off all your services during your first visit. Make sure when you call and make the appointment that the coupon will apply towards the hairstyling you’re booking with (it needs to be an in-house stylist, rather than one who just rents a chair). Visit their site, on the left-hand side of the home page there is a “coupon” button.
Station 28 (Santa Monica)
First time cut & color is $89
NAILS
Visit my “Self-Care Services” page under the Shopping tab for the best money-saving tips on nails.
MASSAGES
Use Groupon to check for massage deals (couples and individual). You can usually find a really great deal. (Massage Revolution in Manhattan Beach is my favorite).
Zen Reflexology (Centinela)
$20 full hour reflexology
Massage For Your Health (Playa del Rey)
$25 full hour reflexology. This place reminds me of Thailand. Everyone is in the same room getting massaged without any private partitions that are the norm here. I don’t necessarily mind being in the company of others while getting a massage as long as everyone is silent so I can relax.
Reflexology here includes getting your feet soaked in warm water. Your clothes are kept on the whole time. You lie face up the whole time while your feet soak as they do a facial/cranial massage, then work their way towards your shoulders then limbs and down to your feet. In the last ten minutes they flip you over so that you’re face down so they can massage your back. Do note: the therapists don’t press particularly hard. I wouldn’t come here if you’re seeking a deep tissue or sports massage. This is just a solid and affordable option for a bit of relaxation and therapeutic touch.
Lucky Foot & Body Massage (Culver City)
$20 body and foot massage
