Location, location. Take it to the coast and enjoy your meal with a view at one of these top picnic spots along the coast and beach cities.

  1. Bruce’s Beach (Manhattan Beach) With great views of the ocean, choose whichever tier you’d like to roll out your blanket on in this park situated on a hill.

  2. Polliwog Park (Manhattan Beach) Also enjoy Shakespeare in the Park here during the summer months, ampitheatre-style seating.

  3. Playa Vista (multiple parks) In-between all the different residential condos in Playa Vista, the developers have also included many parks, each with its own unique design (some specifically for dogs, others that are perfect for picnic-ing).

  4. Up by Dockweiler on Pacific, about midway between Dockweiler off Imperial and Playa del Rey. Watch the planes take off and have the best view of this side of the Pacific.

  5. Virginia Avenue Park (Santa Monica) Central to a bunch of cute little restaurants, and Whole Foods. This park has a groomed, patchy green area.

Countless parks throughout Playa Vista, each with its own unique layout.

6. Malibu Wines (Malibu) You can picnic and bring outside food to Malibu Wines, just no outside alcohol.

7. Playa del Rey Beach (Playa del Rey) One of the low-key beach towns with a sleepy vibe, Playa del Rey is the perfect beach to spread out a big, comfy beach blanket and picnic while watching beach volleyball matches and bikers go by.

8. Paseo de la Playa (Redondo/Torrance) In this beach/bay/peninsula setting, enjoy views of the beach and either stay up by the road and picnic on a bench or grab takeout lunch before driving down to the beach.

9. Mother’s Beach (Marina del Rey) With the playground equipment and safe, shallow water, this beach is more of a family-vibe place. Maybe not the best for a date, but definitely a great option for families with kids.

10. One West Bluff (Westchester) Instead of driving on to the LMU campus, just head the other way on 1 LMU Drive up the bluff to the area known as “One West Bluff”. It’s a beautiful community that is surprisingly non-gated. Before you hit the houses, there is a small park which overlooks Playa Vista, the Ballona wetlands, and much of the Howard Hughes runway which is now “Silicon Beach”. There is a park bench there. It doesn’t get too crowded, mostly residents, but definitely a good one for catching a view of the coast. Beautiful at dusk!
